With just 40 guests’ Ed Sheeran ‘secretly MARRIES fiancée Cherry Seaborn in a low-key Suffolk ceremony.
Ed Sheeran has ‘married his fiancée Cherry Seaborn in a low-key Suffolk ceremony’.
The Shape Of You hitmaker, 28, tied the knot with his childhood friend, 26, just before Christmas, in a ceremony which saw just 40 close friends and family in attendance, according to The Sun.
This comes just a year after Ed had denied that he and Cherry had tied the knot, after he was questioned about a new ring that had appeared on his wedding finger.
A source said: ‘Ed got married a few days before Christmas. It was very quiet – just Ed’s oldest school pals, limited family and the priest.
‘There were only 40 people – so no Taylor Swift, record company executives or any royals or pop star pals. He wanted no fuss and he wanted it to be something entirely for them – just a tiny winter wedding.
‘Neither of them were that fussed about making a big deal about it. Cherry just wanted to get it out of the way without any problems or intrusions.’
The source went onto claim that Ed and Cherry are planning a big festival-style wedding for the summer for their celebrity pals, who were not told about their decision to marry in secret.
Ed announced his engagement to Cherry, 26, in January with a candid Instagram snap, gushing to fans: ‘Got myself a fiancée just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx’
The wedding may certainly prove a surprise to some of Ed’s closest friends, including Rudimental who just weeks earlier laughed off speculation that he was now a married man.
Band member Piers Aggett told the Daily Star: ‘We did get an invite to the wedding an I am looking forward to it.
‘He had to invite us after we said we’ll crash it, we’ll have a drink with him and celebrate his amazing day.’
Back in August Ed was forced to deny claims that he had married Cherry, during an interview with Access where he sported a new ring on his wedding finger.
In the interview, Ed was asked: ‘What about the wedding details? Have you picked a date? Do you know where? Do you know when yet?’
Instead of refusing to answer, the Perfect singer stumbled over a response, before shrugging and pointing to his wedding finger which boasted a silver ring, adding that he would ‘never do anything too public anyway.’
And at the time Ed’s father John only added fuel to the fire when he was asked about his son’s comments in the interview.
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline he said: ‘I’m very sorry, I can’t say anything. We try and keep as anonymous as possible for obvious reasons. I do apologise, but I just don’t give interviews on anything like that.
‘I am not going to comment because we really do want to be as private as possible. I am sorry. I know you have got a job to do – but I haven’t seen it. I am not really into all that stuff. Sorry about that.’
The Grammy winner had also sparked speculation that he had married Cherry back in February, after he was spotted leaving the BRIT Awards with a ring on his wedding finger.
However he later told The Sun that the jewelery was in fact an engagement ring he had been given by Cherry.
Ed and Cherry had been dating since 2015, but actually met years earlier while attending the same school in Framlingham, Suffolk, where Ed was believed to have developed a crush on the brunette beauty.
Almost a year before their engagement was announced, Ed hinted he was ready to pop the question to Cherry in an interview on Australia’s KIIS FM Kyle and Jackie O show.
Speaking to the radio presenters about his relationship he said: ‘She lives three or four miles away from me where I grew up. And we live together now, we just got cats.’
When quizzed by Kyle about the possibility of having children and getting married, he responded: ‘Yeah, potentially. I would like some kids.’
‘So is this a marriage thing?’ prodded Kyle, prompting Ed to add: ‘I’m pretty… yeah I feel pretty good about it.’
