Tanganga, Lloris and Winks superb, Bergwijn brilliant in 2-0 win

Tottenham Hotspur players after their 2-0 win against Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon

Tottenham Hotspur recorded a 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Sunday afternoon to boost their top-four hopes.

The result moves Spurs to within four points of London rivals Chelsea as the race for the final Champions League spot begins to heat up.

And here’s how we rated the Tottenham players against the Citizens.

Hugo Lloris

Made a terrific reaction save to toe Aguero’s shot on to the post just before the half hour mark. He then pushed away Gundogan’s penalty and was furious when Sterling went down after the follow up. Made a late save to tip over De Bruyne’s cross. His handling in his box was from the top drawer. 9

Steven Bergwijn

Showed glimpses of what he could do when Spurs got him the ball in the first half and just when he looked to be tiring he came up with a bit of real debut magic, chesting a Lucas chipped pass down and hitting it on the volley into the bottom corner. Went off soon after with cramp but this was a debut to remember. Gets two extra points for that wonderful goal. 8

Serge Aurier

He was excellent in the first half, making a number of last-gasp blocks and tackles, but was fortunate that Lloris saved the penalty after he tripped Aguero – the VAR check coming a full two minutes after the incident. Again impressed in the second half. Loses one mark for the penalty challenge but this was another very good performance from the Ivorian. 8

Toby Alderweireld

Made a goalline clearance to deny Aguero early in the second half and bellowed his delight at the Spurs fans behind the goal. Dealt with everything that came his way with plenty of last-ditch challenges. 9

Davinson Sanchez

Made an inch-perfect challenge on Aguero on 20 minutes as the Argentine burst into the box. Miss-hit some passes out of his box in the first half but grew in confidence as the game wore on and was dominant. Managed to head against his own crossbar in the final moments. 8

Japhet Tanganga

How was the 20-year-old not used until the Liverpool game in the Premier League is a mystery. He just doesn’t look fazed by anything and has now impressed against the likes of Liverpool and City and other. Ridiculously composed and didn’t put a foot wrong, including a terrific run back to stop Aguero bravely before Lloris clattered into him. 9

Giovani Lo Celso

Fantastic in the centre of the pitch, along with Winks, but in a more defensive role. He broke up so much of City’s play and used the ball well afterwards. He’s certainly no luxury playmaker when Spurs need a bit of steel. 8

Harry Winks

An all-action display from the midfielder and it was his flying run through the middle then ended with Zinchenko picking up his second yellow card. One of his best performances of the season. 9

Dele Alli

On the end of a high tackle from Sterling in the first 15 minutes. Didn’t look in full flow after that but worked hard in defence and attack and eventually came off in the second half. 6

Son Heung-min

Woeful in the first half, struggling to control the ball and beat anyone on the dribble. He switched from the right into the centre in the second half and it did the trick with 19 minutes to go as he fired home via a slight deflection. Three goals in three games yet he’ll be the first to admit he’s been well below his previous standards. 7

Lucas Moura

Collided with Ederson after forcing the keeper into a mistake early on. Worked hard with little end product until setting up Bergwijn for his debut goal. 7

Tanguy Ndombele

Came straight on and turned the City defence inside out before playing in Son to score. 7

Erik Lamela

Looked to battle away in the attacking areas to keep possession. 5

Eric Dier

Added an extra defensive option in the final minutes. N/A
