What is Courgette?

Courgette is the British, and particularly the New Zealand, name for zucchinis. It is usually 1 meter long and its colour ranges from dark to light green with some mottling. Its flesh is white and tender with a light and delicate flavor. It resembles a cucumber in appearance but some varieties are  is picked when it is about 8 cm long and the seeds are soft and immature. When mature it can reach up to a length of 3 feet. It is often fibrous in nature and therefore, not fit to eat. The different variety includes, golden courgette which is brilliant golden-yellow skin that retains its color even after cooking.

The Round varieties are dense, heavy, and nearly seedless with smooth surface. While the Tatume, which is common in Mexico, has similar features of round variety but has the large oval shape. The Costata romanesco also known as cocozelle is a long, narrow variety with slight bulge at the bottom end. It features pale, raised ribs with mottled green skin. When solid and young, this squash is juicy and sweet. Also the Middle-Eastern types are stocky, pale green, tapering ends with a thick dark-green stem. They have smooth shiny skin and solid, crispy and flavorful flesh. The Yellow crooknecks have thick warty skin with markedly curved neck. They are crunchy in texture with sweet delicate flavor

Health Benefits of Courgette
