Google Announces 2020 Core Update Release

Google To Release a Broad Core Algorithm 2020 Update

Google announced that a new broad core algorithm update, titled the ‘January 2020 Core Update’ is been released today.

Google’s guidance regarding this update remains the same as previous core updates.

Google explained:

One way to think of how a core update operates is to imagine you made a list of the top 100 movies in 2015. A few years later in 2019, you refresh the list. It’s going to naturally change. Some new and wonderful movies that never existed before will now be candidates for inclusion. You might also reassess some films and realize they deserved a higher place on the list than they had before.”

In more details. If you ranked your top films some years ago you may have had lala land in the number one slot. For arguments sake let’s say The joker was a better movie, which came out this year, and now it’s at the number one position. Now lala land has dropped in rankings, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad film.

Google has given advice on what to consider if you are negatively impacted by a core update. There aren’t any specific actions to take, in fact, a negative rankings may not signal anything is wrong with your pages.

When Google releases new updates, it means that your site can do better or worse in the search results. Knowing when Google makes these updates gives us something to point to in order to understand if it was something you changed on your web site or something Google changed with its ranking algorithm. Today, we know Google will be releasing a core ranking update, so keep an eye on your analytics and rankings.
