Beyonce has joined the list of celebrities that signed a viral Change.org petition to prevent Rodney Reed’s execution.
Earlier, celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Questlove, Pusha T, Oprah Winfrey, T.I., Meek Mill, LL Cool J and More have spoke out publicly urging for Rodney Reed’s execution to be stopped, millions of others are also helping where they can—in the form of a petition that is getting staggering numbers. As reported by @Newsweek, a petition urging Texas Governor Greg Abbott to halt Reed’s death has gathered more than 2 million signatures.
The Texas inmate has spent more than 21 years on death row for the murder of Stacey Stites in 1996.
According to The Innocence Project, Reed, who is black, was convicted by an all-white jury. There have been some “weaknesses in the case,” as the murder weapon has never been tested for DNA evidence and forensic experts have admitted to errors in their testimony. A handful witnesses have also come forward to suggest Reed is innocent. As a result, Reed’s attorneys filed for clemency to stop his execution, which is scheduled for Nov. 20.
Bey shared the petition to her website, urging Texas Governor Greg Abbott to “Please take a hard look at the substantial evidence in the Rodney Reed case that points to his innocence. Be honest. Be fair. Give him back his life.”
