Manchester United agree contract with Tottenham star Christian Eriksen
Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen has agreed to join Manchester United after settling on a contract at Old Trafford.
The Dane informed Spurs at the end of last season that he would like to seek a new challenge this term and the 27-year-old hoped to join Real Madrid. However, interest from Spain has been minimal and United have swooped in with just 36 hours left in the English transfer window. Spurs had valued Eriksen at £130million but the Dane’s body language in pre-season has been a source of concern for Mauricio Pochettino and there’s now a sense that the club should cash in.
AS broke news of United’s interest in Eriksen and the Spanish publication now claims the two parties have agreed on a contract. Eriksen’s wages will be just short of Paul Pogba’s, making him the third highest paid player at the Theatre of Dreams.
All that remains now is for United to agree a fee with Spurs but negotiations are not expected to be smooth. The report claims United are now confident a deal can be achieved but it’s a race against time to get the Dane to Old Trafford.
Daniel Levy would rather sell the midfielder to a foreign side and does not want to strengthen a direct rival. However, Eriksen has just 12 months left on his deal and has intimated he will not renew, meaning Spurs have little option but to cash in.
