R. Kelly’s daughter condemns ‘terrible monster’ father as she breaks her silence on abuse allegations

R. Kelly’s estranged daughter Buku Abi has published a heartbreaking open letter about the ‘painful’ actions of her ‘terrible father’.

The 21-year-old, whose real name is Joann Kelly, called the musician a ‘monster’ as she addressed allegations currently under criminal investigation from the docu-series Surviving R. Kelly.

Buku explains how she stayed silent for her own ’emotional state’ but never intended to seem ‘careless’ in response to pressure to speak up on claims of mental, physical and emotional abuse Kelly inflicted on a string of women over 20 years.

In a lengthy post on Instagram Stories, which took three days to compose, the singer-songwriter voiced her support for the victims and prayed for all the ‘women and families affected.’

She wrote: ‘To the people that feel I should be speaking up/against everything that is going on right now, I just want you all to understand that devastated in an understatement for all that I feel currently.’

She continued: ‘I pray for all the families and women who have been affected by my father’s actions. Trust, I have been deeply affected by all of this. However, it has been very difficult to process it all.’

Buku explained how she and her mother Andrea Lee, along with her siblings Jay, 19, and Robert, 17, have not seen or spoken to the Ignition singer for a number of years as part of a ‘healing process’.

Buku said that it was ‘very difficult’ to respond to the allegations and said she would ‘never want anyone to feel the pain [she has] felt.’

R. Kelly is currently under investigation by the states of Chicago and Georgia following the release of a six-part Lifetime series interviewing his alleged ‘survivors’.

The documentary features claims including his alleged sexual preference for underage women, allegations he kept a woman as a sex slave, and rumours that he had created his own ‘sex cult’ in which he would keep control of the women and their day-to-day lives.

R. Kelly denies the claims and reportedly believes that those speaking out are motivated by personal or professional vendettas.
