R. Kelly Reportedly Risks Being Evicted from Chicago Music Studio over $80,000 debt

The singer is being evicted from his Chicago music studio for failure to pay his rent, The Blast reports.

Things for the singer have been heating up with each day that passes since the premiere of Surviving R. Kelly docuseries.

Sources close to the situation shared with the outlet that R. Kelly has two weeks to pay more than $80,000 in owed rent, or he’s in jeopardy of being removed by the sheriff. The building owner, Midwest Commercial Funding, filed an eviction lawsuit against the singer in July. Sources say both parties agreed on the deal on Monday: Kelly would either pay what’s owed or leave.

The singer acquired his loan for the property through Midwest Commercial, and his contract reportedly assured a 10-year lease with a monthly rent of $22,927.41. But when Kelly missed two balloon payments and failed to pay the monthly rate, the building owner began the eviction process.

The building that houses Kelly’s studio was featured in Surviving R. Kelly as a base for his reported sex cult. It’s now being sold for $3.9 million.

The fallout from the docu-series hasn’t stopped. Most recently, Dallas PD decided Kelly won’t be charged for allegedly giving a woman an STI. The case stems from last year, when an anonymous woman claimed Kelly gave her an STI and held her captive as a sex slave in 2017.
