Why are Giffgaff and Tesco Mobile down? Both Tesco Mobile and Giffgaff run on the O2 network which means that they are experiencing the same issues as O2 customers. O2 has confirmed that the cause of the data issues appears to be a software issue linked to a 3rd party. The mobile phone provider said: ‘One of our 3rd party suppliers has identified a software issue in their system. Our technical teams are working extremely hard to resolve this.’ Customers have been encouraged to use WiFi whenever possible if they need internet access before the problems have been fixed.
According to the website DownDetector, problems with the network began to appear at just after 4am today – Thursday, December 6. The most recent update of their progress was provided on the O2 UK Twitter account just after 12pm, it said that they are working closely with the 3rd party suppliers to try and fix the problem. The company has described it as a ‘top priority’ and ahs apologised for the inconvenience, but an estimated time of when the O2 network will be working again hasn’t been given. You can keep track of the O2 Network and check whether there are any updates by going to the O2 Status website.
