Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford thanked Gareth Southgate for reviving England’s ‘love of football’ after the Three Lions’ World Cup heartbreak.
Southgate’s men were knocked out against Croatia after throwing away a 1-0 lead in Moscow and will now take on Belgium in a third place play-off.
Few expected England to reach the semi-final stage of the competition and Southgate’s men have managed to win back the support and love of the nation with a new friendly approach.
Rashford was heartbroken at the final whistle as Croatia booked their spot in the final and the youngster broke down in tears on the pitch.
However, he summed up the mood of the nation today by thanking Southhgate for helping us fall back in love with the national team.
‘You’ve brought belief and the love of football back.
Thank you boss from the whole nation,’ tweeted Rashford.

Southgate’s contract runs until the 2020 European Championships but it would be no surprise to see him given a long-term contract after England’s success in Russia. Croatia will now take on France in Sunday’s showpiece final in Moscow at 4pm.
