–PDP lawmaker decamps to APC
Plenary at the House of Representatives assumed a dramatic turn on Wednesday, March 22 when a lawmaker from Benue state, Hassan Anthony, announced his defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Premium Times, the lawmaker who represents Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu constituency, cited division in the PDP as his reason for decamping.
|Speaker of the House of Reps, Yakubu Dogara, overruled an argument by a PDP lawmaker
opposing the defection of Hassan Anthony to the APC.
Mr Anthony’s defection which was announced on the floor of the House at the start of plenary was however, opposed by Nicholas Ossai (PDP-Delta), who raised a point of order, urging the speaker to declare Hassan’s seat vacant.
“The Court of Appeal has on 17th February declared Modu Sheriff the authentic Chairman of the PDP, therefore there is no faction in the PDP,” Mr. Ossai said.
But the speaker, ruled Mr Ossai out, telling him to bring a copy of the Court of Appeal judgement.
Mr Hassan’s defection to the APC has brought the number of APC representatives to 226 and that of PDP to 124.
