REAL Madrid have been offered a staggering $298 million (£176million) for Cristiano Ronaldo.

An unnamed Chinese Super League club are desperate to land the Portugal star and have tabled a second bid, according to a report by Spanish agency Marca.

They are prepared to offer Ronaldo $178 million (£105m-a-year) — making him the highest paid athlete ever, The Sun reports.

Only boxing star Floyd Mayweather has earned more in a 12 month period, with Forbes in 2015 estimating he raked in $US300 million after his highly-anticipated showdown with Manny Pacquiao.

The phenomenal offer to Ronaldo would dwarf any other footballer’s salary at an unbelievable $3.4 million per week.

Forbes earlier this week announced Ronaldo retained his position as the highest paid athlete on the planet with total income of $US93 million made up of wages of $US58 million from Real Madrid and sponsorship earnings of $US35 million.

Carlos Tevez was widely reported to be the highest paid in the world – taking home just over $1 (£634,615) gross every seven days at Shanghai Shenhua.

But his fellow Argentina forward Ezequiel Lavezzi has been earning more, with a weekly remuneration of $1.3 million (£798,000) a week.

That works out as $70 million a year being shelled out by his Hebei China Fortune club.

Ronaldo, 32, fuelled talk he could be set to leave Madrid in the near future by refusing to rule out an exit.

When asked about the possibility by a reporter for Deportes Cuatro, the Portuguese supremo laughed off a move away, but then declared “nothing is impossible.”

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have also expressed interest but Real are likely to turn down any offers no matter how high.

Ronaldo highlighted his class with a superb two-goal showing in the Champions League final as Los Blancos clinched their 12th title.

The Ballon d’Or winner has been with the Spanish club since 2009 after he moved from United for a then world-record fee of £80m.

He is likely to retain his title this year — forcing Lionel Messi to praise his “phenomenal” rival.

The Barcelona star said: “No, I have always said it — and [Ronaldo] from his part — that he is armed with the presence of us both.

“We try to achieve the best every year for our team, and what is said outside of that I don’t think is very important.

“He is a phenomenal player with a lot of quality. All the world knows, and that is why he is one of the best of the world.”
